Fada
[edit]@Connasuf: It looks like you think that the subject's name should be spelled with a fada. Instead of continuing to revert, can you provide some sources here to support that change? If you just keep reverting, they'll end up blocking you, which nobody wants. agtx 22:32, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
- A fada broadens the vowel, the correct spelling is Seán please see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sean Connasuf (talk) 22:34, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
- This is the Irish spelling of Seán therefore there should be a fada over the a. This wiki article expressly states that this is the correct spelling of Seán: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sean — Preceding unsigned comment added by Connasuf (talk • contribs) 22:33, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
- Per what reliable sources does Connaughton use that spelling? —C.Fred (talk) 22:35, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
- Reliable sources = any Irish to English dictionary. Sean meaning old, aged or elderly. Séan meaning deny, recant, disclaim or index etc. Seán = the name. Connasuf (talk) 22:46, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
- As I explained on your talk page, please have a look at WP:COMMONNAME. We use the name that a person is commonly known by. Here, there are no sources I see demonstrating that this person uses the fada. Many, many people use the name "Sean" without a fada, and we don't impose the fada on them here. That's why Sean Connery, Sean Spicer, Sean Penn, and Sean Combs all lack the fada. agtx 22:52, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
- This is a bastardization, there should at least be a preface. Connasuf (talk) 23:01, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
- While I understand your point, it's not a excuse from inaccuracies. Connasuf (talk) 23:03, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
- A preface wouldn't be appropriate either. End of the day, it's not inaccurate -- just a different, generally accepted spelling that this person is known by. agtx 23:06, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
